Petsafe PUSB-300 Ultralight Sonic Bark Control Collar Review

The Petsafe PUSB-300 ultralight electronic dog training collar uses sonic and ultrasonic tones to discourage inappropriate dog barking. The surprisingly small unit weighs in at just one ounce, and is designed to slide onto your dog’s existing collar. This means that your dog will not have to adjust to a new collar or any significant increase in collar weight. Since the collar trains with audio discouragement only, it is appropriate for any size or breed of dog.

Other electronic dog training collars use vibration as a trigger for the disciplinary tones. Sometimes, false triggers can be caused by other sources of vibration, such as passing vehicles or nearby machinery. In order to avoid these problems, the PUSB-300 Ultralight Sonic Bark Control Collar utilizes sonic only triggers. The collar will be activated only by the sound of your dog barking, without any worry of false triggers that could adversely affect the training of your puppy.

The tone emitted by this electronic dog training collar can be heard by humans as a high pitched beep. The majority of the sound created however is outside of the human hearing spectrum, and will be heard only by dogs. This sound is not loud enough to cause any pain or hearing damage, but the tone is distracting, much like the sound of an alarm clock might be to humans.

Additionally, this collar has two settings to allow you to customize the disciplinary level to your particular dog. Low sensitivity allows more effective discipline for timid or quieter dogs. The dog will have to bark excessively in order to activate the training tone. High sensitivity is designed to train more noisy dogs. With this setting, a disciplinary tone will sound when even a minimum amount of barking occurs. Of course, trainers are encouraged to use the lowest effective setting for their given situation, but this versatility gives trainers more room for customized decision making.
